Northampton College has selected a product from Network Box to provide its staff and students with remotely-managed protection against Internet threats.
Following a merger with Daventry Tertiary College, Northampton College has become one of the largest general Further Education Colleges in the region. The college has 14,000 students, over 550 full time members of staff and around 500 visiting lecturers.
"The installation of the Network Box was quick and simple and we are very pleased with its effective results," said Richard Garbutt, ICT Support Manager at Northampton College.
Several other solutions were considered by the college but the Network Box was preferred over competitive products because of its set of features and value for money, according to the makers. This includes anti-virus capabilities, including unzipping attachments and the ability to scan downloads. The content filtering capability of the box is by SurfControl, and the box’s anti-spam solution detects all rogue emails.
All the features of the Network Box are supported by PUSH technology. As soon as an update is available, for example to combat the very latest viruses or worms, it is pushed out from Network Box so that all boxes worldwide are updated within a minute, it is claimed.
"The key benefit of the Network Box is that it is a single managed hardware and software solution for both email and the web," added Richard.
The Network Box includes a firewall that supports Intrusion Detection and Prevention and provides an unlimited VPN licence, the makers add.
