Network Award

by msecadm4921

Systems integrator Telindus and New College Durham (NCD) won the ‘Network Project of the Year Award’ within the public sector category at the recent Techworld.com Awards 2005.

The award was presented to Telindus and NCD following the integration of the college’s new ICT network, which brings together data, voice and IP CCTV surveillance on a single network infrastructure. The aim of this network was to support the teaching and learning environment that the college required to set itself apart from other educational establishments, the college says.

Danny Williams, Director of Marketing Communications UK and Ireland, Telindus, said: "We designed and installed a resilient IP network, integrating voice, data and video surveillance onto a single network. The overall project was complicated because the ‘new’ campus was to be built on the site of the working ‘old’ campus and necessitated the phased move of staff and students into new working accommodation with the support of ICT services. Telindus and NCD staff therefore had to develop transitional networks to allow progression from old to new network topologies with minimal impact on learning. NCD is a pioneering college, and its converged network now offers a vast improvement in flexibility, manageability and Total Cost of Ownership, through this integrated service."

Alan Race, Head of ICT and Purchasing, New College Durham, said: "It was a huge leap forward in technology for the college, but having worked with Telindus for seven years we trusted them to deliver the right network infrastructure. This project delivered a demonstrable ROI that supports significant organisational improvements whilst delivering a new learning experience which has benefited both students and lecturers."
