The Security Industry Authority is to host a series of road shows explaining new licensing arrangements in Northern Ireland.

The briefings, for those working in private security and for buyers of private security services, will be held in Belfast, Coleraine, Londonderry, Fivemiletown and Newry during February and March. <br><br>Speakers from the SIA, the Northern Ireland Office, private security companies and users of private security will explain and discuss the purpose, process, risks and benefits of licensing. <br><br>From December 2009 in Northern Ireland an SIA licence will be required for each different licensable activity undertaken. These are: <br><br>&#183; Cash and Valuables in Transit <br><br>&#183; Close Protection <br><br>&#183; Door Supervision <br><br>&#183; Immobilisation, restriction and removal of vehicles <br><br>&#183; Key Holding <br><br>&#183; Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) <br><br>&#183; Security Guard <br><br>From May 2009 the SIA will be accepting licence applications, as well as applications from suppliers wishing to register as approved under the SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS). <br><br>Andy Drane, SIA Director of Compliance Enforcement and leader of the implementation said: “We encourage both those working in the industry and buyers of security services in Northern Ireland to come along to our road shows to find out more. <br><br>“A lot of good work has been done, and will continue to be done, to prepare those in the security industry for the new arrangements. The requirements, which have already been introduced in England, Wales and Scotland, will enhance will enhance public protection by helping to prevent unsuitable or poorly trained people from operating within the private security industry.” <br><br>To sign up for the briefings visit:
