CCTV firm Dedicated Micros had a control room on its stand at IFSEC to underline the end-user benefits of integrator BBV’s Pick-a-Point Digital Matrix solution, working with DM’s NetVu Connected products.
Pick-a-Point is able to replicate the simplicity of operation associated with a traditional analogue matrix by allowing control of multiple video servers without the need for thousands of metres of cabling, the manufacturers. It also offers potential to build a traditional composite video wall displaying cameras from monitored sites delivering control over any camera in the system, while retaining keyboard and joystick functionality, DM adds.
From the start Pick-a-Point has been designed to be intuitive for operators, according to the firm, providing an environment they are already familiar with, which simplifies image retrieval. After initial bespoke commissioning by BBV, operators can pick and click cameras using Pick-a-Point’s GUI (Graphical User Interface) from a site’s database to view images they require – without having to know which digital video recorder the camera is linked to. Also, unlike many virtual matrix solutions, dependent on a PC to record, view or playback video, the product is a stand-alone hardware based workstation which eliminates reliability and training issues associated with PC based systems. Pauline Norstrom, Marketing Manager at DM, said: "The unique Digital Matrix capability of Pick-a-Point has already generated considerable interest in the UK and Europe, at Medway Council in Kent for example it has been successfully applied to help them bring control of a large number of schools – scattered across a wide geographical area – into a single control room. This application was even short-listed as a finalist in this year’s Security Industry Innovation Awards."
