Train operating company (TOC) Northern Rail reports that it has invested £1.5m on high visibility rail security teams across its network.
The teams were operational from October 25 on the Airedale and Wharfedale lines and between Bolton and Rochdale, providing support to passengers and staff at stations and on-board trains.
The uniformed security teams are equipped with vehicles allowing them to respond quickly to incidents, the TOC reports. The mobile units will be equipped with communications and video equipment capable of remotely monitoring stations and car parks while the teams are responding to an incident or patrolling the route by train. The teams work in partnership with British Transport Police, sharing intelligence and attending regular joint briefings.
What they say
Martyn Guiver, Security and Emergency Planning Manager, Northern Rail, said: “The safety of our passengers and staff is paramount. The security teams will patrol the network as a visible deterrent to the small minority of people committing anti-social behaviour along our routes.”
