Recruitment agencies, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) have brought out a code of ethics.
The ‘Code of Ethics for Recruitment Organisations Supplying Security Personnel’ is designed, the bodies say, to raise and maintain a high standard of recruitment practice.
Graham Bassett, chairman of the working group that developed the code and a director of London-based SSR Personnel, says: "As specialist security sector recruitment agencies, it was important for us to develop a code that would demonstrate a commitment to maintain and raise standards. I believe that this code is an important development for both the recruitment and security industries, both of whom will benefit greatly."
BSIA Group Projects Manager, Chris Pinder adds: “The recruitment agencies that have signed up to the Code are setting themselves apart from their contemporaries. The security industry will be able to look to agencies that have signed up to the Code to provide them with professional and ethical business services.”
Marcia Roberts, Deputy Chief Executive, REC says: "The REC are committed to promoting and raising standards across the industry which is why we are delighted to endorse this code. Any initiative that promotes high standards and gives both job seekers and employers a way of differentiating between recruitment agencies can only be a positive step forward.”
Seven recruitment agencies have been involved in the development of the code and have signed it. To underpin the code, all signatories have become associate members of the BSIA and are inspected by a UKAS accredited inspectorate. The code will be downloadable from August 1 by visiting the BSIA website:
