Risk Speakers

by msecadm4921

Today’s businesses face evolving regulatory and corporate governance landscapes, the emergence of fragile recoveries in western countries, and the relentless pace of technological and socio-political change. These challenges are pushing enterprise approaches to risk management up the board agenda.

So say organisers of an event at the Lancaster Hotel, London on November 19 run for The Institute of Risk Management event. Speakers include the business woman, Jacqueline Gold, the economist and author Roger Bootle, business psychologist and lecturer, Holly Andrews and ex-head of global risk at HBOS, Paul Moore. The event will be chaired by City editor, Anthony Hilton, from the London Evening Standard.

Dealing with Psychopaths in the Workplace and in the Boardroom is the title of a talk by business psychologist Holly Andrews, of Worcester Business School.

We all have an idea of what a psychopath is, fuelled by media hype. However in reality not all psychopaths are killers or even criminals – perhaps one per cent of the general population have psychopathic personality disorders but most are leading normal lives. These people are cold, ruthless, manipulative and reckless. Left unchecked they can cause great damage to their co-workers and the organisation they work for.

However good corporate governance requires other, non-psychopathic, traits including honesty, trust, integrity, mutual respect and commitment.
This session will define workplace psychopaths, how they operate within organisations and explore the implications at board level, with particular emphasis on risk.
