The Security Industry Authority has sent details of its second conference
Titled Security Talks: Improving Regulation and Raising Standards, it’s on Friday, May 16 at the Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds LS10 1LT.
The first hour will open with talks by SIA figures: Hazel Banks, Director Strategic Development; Baroness Ruth Henig, chair; and Mike Wilson, CEO. Then will come the seminars on ‘review and interpretation of the application of the Private Security Industry Act 2001’ on the topics of proposed licence integration; feasibility and benefits of the compulsory registration of companies; and should in-house security be licensed – the case for and against. After lunch will come a speech by Stuart Lowden, Managing Director, Wilson James and Vice-Chair, BSIA. Then there’ll be feedback from the morning seminars as attenders will not be able to attend two of the three; they will be able hear the gist of what was said.
Afternoon seminars
Then come the afternoon seminars: under the title of ‘raising quality and standards within the private security industry’: here the topics are ‘training, qualifications and licensing requirements’; a discussion of the influences that affect strategic buying decisions and what actions can be taken to increase the proportion of customers specifying ACS in the procurement of security; and ‘compliance and enforcement’.
