Situation Management

Jamie Wilson, NICE Systems Security Group Marketing Manager, UK, Nordics & South Africa, writes ahead of the Transport Security Expo & Conference in September.

Whether located at an airport terminal, shipping port, dockyard, rail station and indeed any mass transit hub, or supply chain network, surveillance control rooms are expected to provide the highest levels of security for the protection and safety of passengers, personnel, cargo and infrastructure. Situation management is a proven technology that streamlines the information that enters the control room, automating routine processes and freeing surveillance teams to do what they do best – use good judgement and make informed decisions.

Situation management is software-based technology that integrates and correlates the many continual streams of data that enter the control room (access control, video systems, perimeter intrusion sensors, location tracking, panic buttons, environmental sensors, communication devices etc) into a single unified platform. This centralised information can then be quickly and accurately interrogated against pre-defined rules to identify an incident, assess the action required and initiate the appropriate response.

On stand C4, at the Transport Security Expo & Conference, that takes place at Olympia, London on September 14 and 15, 2010, NICE Systems will demonstrate how organisations including Larnaka International airport, Transnet Freight Rail in South Africa and the US ports of Virginia, Houston, Corpus Christi and Los Angeles, are benefiting from the real-time situation management software platform, NICE Situator.

The Port of Los Angeles recently implemented NICE Situator and its Port Police Technology Manager, Julia Kirwan recently commented: “Security is unquestionably a top priority for us. NICE Situator enhances our security capabilities by connecting the dots across all of our available information sources, and by streamlining and coordinating our response actions. It facilitates operational response so that field personnel and incident commanders know what’s happening and what to do.”

Visit stand C4 to learn how these organisations are using situation management technology to plan, act and improve their security procedures, in order to minimise the risk of operator error, enhance security response, protect existing security investments and reduce operating costs.
