Many police forces and universities are working together on staff and student security come the new academic year.
As part of the Thames Valley Police force-wide Safer streets campaign, police in Oxford are urging students to take care and avoid becoming victims of crime.
Crime reduction advisers are giving talks at halls of residence and are attending freshers fairs to give students vital information they need to stay safe.
Young people are particularly at risk of street robbery and can be affected by alcohol related violence in the city centre. Student houses are also often targeted by burglars. However there are many ways you can avoid becoming a victim of crime.

Crime Reduction Adviser, Graham Milne, said: โOxford is a fantastic city to come to university and no more dangerous than any other city centre. But we want students to really enjoy their time here and not give opportunist criminals easy pickings. "
