Tameside Contract

by msecadm4921

Consultancy Advanced Security Partners (ASP) has a £270,000 contract with Ashton Pioneer Homes (APH) and Ask Developments to develop security for Richmond Park, West Park and St Petersfield in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside.

Following the competitive tender, ASP will come on board to further enhance security measures across Richmond Park and West Park with improvements to the CCTV control room, provision of innovative security across the site and the public realm surveillance of St Petersfield.

Ashton Pioneer Homes has been responsible for over 900 affordable properties across the development since the stock transfer in 1999. Originally, the area was subjected to substantial crime with serious deterioration to the buildings and communal / public areas on the estates.

However, since APH’s take over, there has been significant investment in the security infrastructure with the installation of more than 70 fixed and portable cameras, two-way intercoms, concierge, access control, fobbed entrances and the employment of a 12-strong 24/7 Neighbourhood Services Team.

Tony Berry, chief executive of Ashton Pioneer Homes, said: "It has never been our intention to create a ‘Big Brother’ existence for our residents; our aim has always been to provide a safe haven and crime free homes and environment. Our Neighbourhood Services Team both interacts with residents and monitors the site which has lead to an unprecedented decrease in anti-social behaviour and crime levels."

The 24-hour surveillance of the public realm at St Petersfield – the 400,000 sq ft office space, retail and leisure complex – has also been designed by ASP and will be managed by Ashton Pioneer Homes through its CCTV control room.

Jason Todhunter, director of ASP, said: "Ashton-Under-Lyne has arguably become the biggest growth area in Greater Manchester but to sustain this growth it is paramount it loses its image as a crime hub.

"Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council confirmed that the percentage of reported crimes involving the theft of motor vehicles or burglary is almost twice the national average. We’re committed to preventing the occurrence of crime through innovative measures and the continued updates to the CCTV Control Room, the security equipment on site and the public realm surveillance, supported by a responsive Neighbourhood Services Team, are crucial to achieving this as they are a key deterrent in combating anti-social behaviour. "
