Business continuity tips

The British Standards Institution (BSI) is offering top tips on how you can prepareand respond to disruptions to your business and supply chain using the international standard ISO 22301. In brief, 22301 covers the requirements for setting up and managing an effective Business Continuity Management System.

The ten tips are, briefly:

1. Identify critical business functions
2. Produce a plan
3. Document your plan
4. Communicate
5. Test your plans
6. Your suppliers need BCM too
7. Ensure continual improvement
8. Align to organizational objectives
9. Insure your organization
10. Have an incident communications plan.

Like other management systems’ standards, BS ISO 22301 is based on the ‘Plan-Do-Check-Act’ model that seeks to improve continually the effectiveness of the organization through proficient planning, implementation, supervision, review and maintenance.
