Five police forces, a civil service security team and Warwickshire County Council are the latest to have staff take accredited crime prevention qualifications from The Police Crime Prevention Academy.
The five forces were West Midlands, Durham, Merseyside, Dorset and Northamptonshire, taking the Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention for Practitioners. That’s for those who are in a specialist crime prevention role. The content includes the context of crime; the application of a problem solving process; correct and effective use of security products; site security surveys and environmental visual audits; working in partnerships and related legislation; and running a crime prevention initiative.
Head of Academy Guy Collyer said: “We now run two national courses each year, and they are in significant demand. We are always happy to see a mix of professions taking these qualifications and welcome the attendance of Local Authorities and other interested professions.”
The Level 4 provides a stepping stone to the Level 5 Diploma in Crime Prevention – Designing Out Crime.
Background
The certificate is part of accredited and portable qualifications in crime prevention and designing out crime which began in September 2018. The qualifications provide learning and CPD opportunities for those within the police and other public bodies that have a statutory duty around delivering safer communities: local government, Community Safety Partnerships, Fire and Rescue, Health and Probation services. The qualifications are also for the private sector, such as security staff and managers, architects and planners.
After assuming responsibility from the College of Policing for the running of crime prevention and designing out crime courses in the UK, the Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI) Crime Prevention Academy has been delivering ProQual approved and OFQUAL accredited qualifications in crime prevention and designing out crime since September 2018. Cyber Crime Prevention Courses are also available through the Police Digital Security Centre. Visit www.crimepreventionacademy.com.
