Training

Danish work-experience

by Mark Rowe

Two groups of apprentices from various UK electronic security installation companies are leaving the UK in April on EU-funded work experience to Denmark.

It’s the first such programme funded through the Leonardo Mobility Programme for Skills for Security. This is running with the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology, Bravida, a systems installation company in Scandinavia, and the Leonardo da Vinci National Agency.

The 14 days in Copenhagen will give participants the opportunity to see operations overseas and develop their skills in the installation of security systems. They will stay in the city youth hostel, with an accompanying adult, and will be working alongside Bravida’s engineers in the Copenhagen area.

Ruth Oliver, Head of Skills and Standards at Skills for Security says: ‘The Leonardo Mobility Programme offers apprentices an excellent opportunity to work in another EU country whilst enhancing skills, exchanging ideas and experiencing another EU culture’

The apprentices attended a pre-departure briefing held by Skills for Security in Worcester, where the aims of Leonardo Mobility; to improve and update skills, share knowledge and experience, create contacts, promote continuous training, and diffuse knowledge were explained.

A buffet lunch was sponsored by Cooper Security of Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire. Susan Smith, Operations Manager at Nova Security, Abington, near Northampton provided a cultural overview of Denmark with a light hearted language training session. Ruth Oliver encouraged the participants to take maximum advantage from this visit and to pass the knowledge they gain to their colleagues on return. The apprentices are:
