E-learning for CCTV operators

by Mark Rowe

Why it is often difficult to spot suspect behaviours? What affects operators – their vision and memory? What are the ways of overcoming these restrictions?

These are among the topics in an interactive e-learning package for CCTV operators brought out by the official Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI).

The modular course takes about an hour to do and can be done individually or as part of a group. Downloadable fact sheets provide an aide-memoire.

The course points out that it’s in fact rare for an operator to see anything suspicious, as an operator will be responsible for many cameras and can have hundreds of viewing angles; and other things may take the operator from proactive monitoring.
