The exam awarding body Pearson Education (formerly Edexcel) reports that the Security Industry Authority (SIA) has confirmed that if you have the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention Skills, you are exempt from having to take extra physical intervention (PI) training.
Namely, the PI skills within the Private Security Industry unit (R/600/6303) contained within the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision and the Level 2 Award in Upskilling Door Supervisors.
For first-time licence applications, the qualification must have been achieved less than three years before the badge application.
For licence renewal applications, the qualification will be accepted even if it is over three years old, unless there has been a gap greater than three years between holding licences (a gap may be due to expiry or revocation of the previous licence).
Training centres can claim the unit as usual and must retain a copy of the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention Skills certificate, within the candidate portfolio, as evidence that may be sampled as part of the usual Quality Assurance.
