BT Redcare is offering its customers in England the chance to gain a City & Guilds, Level 2 competency based qualification in Electronic Security and Emergency Systems, free.
Lisa John-Middlemiss senior marketing manager at BT Redcare said: โThe ability to demonstrate competency has become increasingly important for both employee and employer but it usually comes at a cost,โ says . โFunding has been secured for the City & Guilds qualification, so we are proud to be able to offer this free of charge for customers.โ
The qualification by City & Guilds is awarded for demonstrating competency while carrying out the job. Assessment is done during a site visit and requires a small portfolio of information and evidence.
The City & Guilds is aimed at those who design, install, survey, commission and maintain anyone of the following: intruder alarms, CCTV, access control or fire systems. It is open to anyone who works in the electronic security systems industry, with these conditions:
โขYou have worked and gained experience on a variety of installations; domestic, industrial, commercial (as a guide, at least 12 months of experience)
โขYou have support from your employer confirming your experience
โขThe company you work for must be an SME of less than 250 employees
โขCompanies must have an office in England
โขCandidates must be 19 or over.
Since the scheme opened earlier this year over 100 people have registered and already 20 people have completed the qualification.
One of the first was Michael Briggs. Michael is one of six engineers from GB Security Services, their managing director, David Simpson is very supportive of the scheme.
Michael and David are pictured with BT Redcare Commercial Director Tom Bennett at IFSEC 2013 where Michael received a BT Redcare Signal Tester and David a bottle of Champagne recognition.
