Speight first

by Mark Rowe

Among the latest Chartered Security Professionals (CSyPs) is Dr Peter Speight of Securitas, who applied through ASIS UK. Peter, who joined the security company through its acquisition of Reliance Security, was in the pages of Professional Security magazine last year with his book Why Security Fails, and on this page when gaining his doctorate. Briefly, the Security Institute manages the CSyP on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals. The CSyPs meet about once a quarter informally, usually in London.

The ASIS UK Chapter held its Summer Meeting on June 12, attended by some 147 members and guests. At the meeting, Dr Peter Speight CSyP became the first person to gain admittance to the Register of Chartered Security Professionals via the ASIS UK route.

Peter received his CSyP tie, lapel pin from Sharon Williams, herself a CSyP, who is the Chapter representative on the Chartered Security Professional Registration Authority.

Although there are already 15 ASIS members who have achieved CSyP status (about a third of the total), Peter is the first to achieve this via ASIS UK. The UK chapter of ASIS became the second licensee of the register earlier this year (the Security Institute being the first, and the managers of the qualification, for the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals). Most of the ASIS CSyPs also hold the CPP certification. If you are interested in becoming a CSyP through ASIS, email the ASIS UK office ([email protected]).
