In Lancashire, a drugs dog joined police on patrol in Burnley as part of an operation to tackle crime in pubs and clubs. Max, a trained drugs dog, joined officers on patrol in Burnley and Padiham. They visited eight pubs and clubs in a bid to deter people from using or dealing drugs.
The op was funded by BAND scheme – Burnley Against Night-time Disorder. BAND is managed by town centre licensees working with Burnley Borough Council and the town centre neighbourhood policing team and is aimed at keeping the town centre safe.
“It’s good news that we’re not finding drugs. Max is a fantastic deterrent and I think it’s reassuring for people to see the police out and about with a dog. We will not tolerate drugs being used and sold in and around licensed premises and where we have information that this is happening we will take action. We have a duty to protect people from the harm caused by drugs. The message is clear – if you are found with drugs, you will be dealt with robustly and targeted.”
