Browne Jacobson has added to its counter fraud team with Intelligence Manager Mike Tuffin.

Mike has more than 10 years’ experience in counter fraud intelligence and was most recently Head of Intelligence at Greenwoods Solicitors. Before joining Greenwoods in 2011 he held intelligence positions at Keogh Solicitors, Cahoot and Abbey National. His specialism lies in all areas of intelligence from fraud detection, financial risk assessment and intelligence analysis to private and criminal investigations and anti-money laundering matters, specifically in the banking and insurance sectors.

Mike will be based in the firm’s Birmingham office and will report to Paul Wainwright, Partner and Head of Counter Fraud. The law firm’s counter fraud team specialises in handling first and third party fraud in employers’ liability, public liability and motor claims for a range of sectors, including insurers and local authorities.

Paul Wainwright said: “This is an area that we have been seeking to strengthen and we are delighted to have secured Mike’s appointment. Mike’s expertise in developing early risk identification systems, intelligence gathering, counter fraud and data protection will be a real asset to our clients, particularly in the insurance, banking, health and local government sectors.

“Having the tools to be able to identify and detect fraud at an early stage is crucial. We have recently invested in integrating our database management systems across our insurance and public risk teams and have made significant progress on developing a state-of-the art data matching tool that will significantly enhance the range of investigatory services we can offer our public and private sector clients.”

Mike Tuffin added: “Fraudsters are getting ever more sophisticated which is why early detection and intelligence is becoming such a critical component in the fight against fraud which costs businesses and consumers billions of pounds each year. I’m delighted to be joining Paul’s team which has an impressive client portfolio and an excellent reputation in the marketplace.”
