Maritime course

by Mark Rowe

City & Guilds has accredited Gulf of Aden Group Transits (GoAGT) to operate the course for the Level 3 Award for Maritime Security Operatives (MSO 8269-03).

The first City & Guilds MSO course was starting on Monday July 1, 2013 and will be delivered in the DNV (Det Norske Veritas) Accredited GoAGT Maritime Training Centre located in Galle, Sri Lanka. The course will be delivered twice monthly on the first and third weeks of each month, lasting five days and covering 38 guided learning hours.

On completion the student will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 3 certificate, a qualification that the trainers say is set to become a core requirement for compliance with the new industry standard for armed security provision, ISO/PAS 280007:2012.

GoAGT Chief Operating Officer, Gerry Northwood OBE said: “At GoAGT we are very excited about our first City & Guilds MSO course. Preparing it has required a dedicated effort from a small team of qualified and highly experienced training personnel, including Eamon Dolan and Damian McCormack, and we are proud to have established the only course which is accredited for teaching outside the UK.”

He added: “The unique location of GoAGT’s training facilities will leave students ideally placed to take up Maritime Security opportunities as soon as they are qualified. It also allows MSO’s who are currently on deployment in Galle to undertake this course.”

Applications are now open and can be made through GoAGT’s website http://goagt.org/training/mso-training/.
