Retail crime reduction network

by Mark Rowe

The Retail Security Network, a not-for-profit company, has appointed Paul Thorn, pictured, as its General Manager.

Run by the crime reduction management software company Littoralis, its aim is to bring together shopping centres and retail parks within the M25 for online information-sharing. In 2016 the RSN plans to extend to cover the south east. Members receive images of unknown offenders caught on CCTV, novel criminal methods, police alerts. Members can input their own crime-related intelligence and other awareness information to share through the network.

Paul’s professional background is in communications. He says: “The Network has great potential to reduce the financial burden of low-level crime to shopping centres and retail parks in the South East. I’m looking forward to using my skills to provide Members with the up-to-date information they need to help prevent crimes before they happen.”

Shopping centres and retail parks who took part in phase one of the pilot in 2015 were able to do so free for the first three months. Thereafter members pay an annual subscription of £499. Shopping centres that joined after phase one of the roll-out of the system would have paid the same subscription charge, plus a one-time joining fee of £150.

Paul says: “One of the first things I have done as General Manager is to extend the same opportunity of the three month free trial to future new members here in the South East. For those who want to explore how being part of RSN can benefit them I have planned a programme of webinars. They will run for three months until the end of March 2016. There are a wide variety of times and dates available. It is really easy to choose a time that suits on the RSN website.”
