SIA signs £13m deal with Tata

by Mark Rowe

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has signed a five year, £13m contract with Tata Consultancy Services Limited.

After a tendering process, TCS were assessed to be the most competitive based on the pre-defined evaluation criteria. The contract is for new systems to support the delivery of the SIA’s future licensing, approval and compliance operations. The new services are planned to start at the end of June 2014.

SIA Director of Service Delivery Stephen McCormick said: “We are pleased to have agreed and signed a contract with TCS. The new services that TCS will provide will streamline our processes, making them simpler to use, and will encourage industry self-service.”

Background

The SIA in its earliest days, 2003, gave the contract for running the badging of ‘licensable sectors’ to Syntegra, an arm of BT. Readers may recall the logjam of applications before the SIA licences for contract guards first became the law to hold, in 2005. Also in 2008 when new IT systems were put in, supposedly to improve the service, the SIA had to apologise for poor service when it became difficult if not impossible to get through by phone to the ‘contact centre’.
