Tourism industry date

Tourism and hotel security – to create a top-notch, secure experience for guests, without the feeling of intrusion on privacy – are the topics for a central London event next month.

Stuart Grainger-Smith, Safety and Security Manager, Amba Hotel Marble Arch (London) is among the invited speakers at the Safe Stay event on Friday, April 27, at Cavendish Conference Centre. An evening event is running on April 26. Stuart said: “All staff needs to be aware of what is going on around them and to ensure that as part of customer service, our guests feel appreciated and safe without feeling that they have booked a room in an armour-plated fortress. Getting the balance right is what is needed to find the measured way forward.”

When asked how important safety and security are to guests when choosing a destination or a hotel, Stuart said: “Safety and security standards within hotels are a key factor to any discerning guest. More people are now switched on to news about issues and therefore when they travel are more keyed into what they expect to see, have and find.” Stuart will discuss the importance of adequate staff training and preparation to avoid oversights in guests’ safety.

Other invited speakers include Head of Group Security, Edwardian Hotels London, Darren Carter; Head of Safety and Security at The Ned in central London, Nick Mackenzie; and Director of Security, The Savoy, Tim Molden. For the speakers in full visit https://safestayevent.com/speakers/.

The event will examine and propose solutions for the impact of more and more common natural disasters, extreme weather consequences, health risk outbreaks, terrorism acts and smaller incidents on tourism. The trainer and consultant Andy Davis, Managing Director at Trident Manor, said: “It [Safe Stay 2018] represents a great learning experience and a chance for those within the sector (not just the security teams) to network and learn about the management of security and safety risks from some of the industry’s best speakers.”

On the agenda are best practice examples, case studies and panel discussions, besides three practical workshops. One of the workshop leaders is Andy Davis. He said: “The beauty of the Safe Stay conference is that it is sector-specific. That means that workshops contained within the conference are able to be better focused towards the real issues that can impact the sector.” Andy’s workshop will be on the topic “Security is Everybody’s Business – Obtaining all employees’ buy-in.” .
