Access Control

Door networked control

by Mark Rowe

HID Global, the US-based identity card and access product manufacturer, has released its EDGE EVO Solo. It’s described as an IP-enabled product for networked access control. As a single-door solution, EDGE EVO Solo is part of the company’s EDGE EVO open and scalable controller platform. It allows the makers say real-time monitoring, report generation and the use of the system hardware for complementary applications.

EDGE EVO Solo is a remotely managed stand-alone product that uses a standard web browser and does not require software to be installed on PCs. It also provides the ability to power all devices around a door using Power over Ethernet (PoE), so reducing total door installation costs by removing the need to install a separate, dedicated power supply, according to the company. EDGE EVO Solo uses less expensive CAT5 wiring compared to traditional structured cable, and it can be upgraded to an EDGE EVO Host solution as access control demands increase.

John Fenske, pictured, vice president of product marketing, Physical Access Control with HID Global, said: “Offering the convenience of contactless physical access control along with PC login and a variety of additional smart card-enabled applications, EDGE EVO Solo is ideal for small- and medium-sized businesses managing a single door for ten to hundreds of cardholders. The solution’s intuitive web interface also enables a number of simple management features, making it easy understand for users that know little to nothing about access control.”

It’s available in controller-only and controller/reader and form factors that support a full range of card and reader options. It’s localised in 12 languages for use in markets around the world. Visit http://www.hidglobal.com/products/controllers/edge-evo.
