The CCTV company Tecton reports a firmware upgrade for their Servalan and Liberator recorder-controllers. The upgrade allows a range of IP cameras to be used in native (not Onvif) mode. This usually results in better performance with PTZ IP cameras, the makers say. There are also various stability improvements, one of which will increase disc life. The download speed on a Servalan can now exceed 450Mb/s. The hard disks can still be removed and given to the police to play back, if need be.
The products can accept 4TB and 6TB discs and there is no need for the discs to be all of the same size. New discs can be fitted while the recorder is still powered up. If you pull out the disc that is being recorded to, it will just record on the next one. Fitting bigger discs, the manufacturer adds, allows faster recording rates, better record quality and longer record times. A new feature is cascading video walls. The company’s ViMMO (Virtual Matrix Monitor Outputs) can be set up to duplicate the pictures being displayed elsewhere. A back-up command centre can see what the primary control room is seeing.
And as for the prospect of hacking into network video recorders, Tecton say that you can’t hack into theirs, as they do not have an operating system.
