Outdoor PIR cameras

by Mark Rowe

The wireless video alarm product company RSI Video Technologies has launched two new outdoor PIR cameras (MotionViewers), the OMV210 for the commercial market, and the OMVC200 for residential.

The MotionViewers are battery-powered PIR motion sensors with integrated digital video cameras and infrared illuminators. They are designed to detect an intrusion, record a ten second video clip, and wirelessly send the alarm and video clip to a central station via a 2G/3G enabled control panel; IP is also available. The central station operator views the video to verify a crime in progress and can initiate an urgent response where required. The outdoors, the makers say, is particularly prone to generating false alarms and unnecessary call out charges, and these can be avoided it’s claimed through relatively low cost video verification solutions.

The OMV210 builds on the DCV250 MotionViewer and provides a wirefree solution for outdoor protection, with both the detectors and control panel having a battery life of up to four years. One panel can manage up to 24 OMV210 devices.

The product features a choice of four detection lenses including curtain and beam; and inputs to take video upon activation of a third party PIR, beam, etc.

The typical markets the makers say for the OMV210 include construction sites, scaffolding, utilities, copper theft, transport and remote infrastructure, outdoor storage areas, church roofs, and vacant premises.

The OMVC200 is aimed at the residential market, for detecting intruders before they enter the home and cause damage, stress, etc. The PIR camera comes with a vertical curtain lens as standard. It can also be used with the French firm says residential apps for remote look in and alarm monitoring.
