Data protection partners

by Mark Rowe

NetClean, a developer of technical solutions against child sexual abuse material, announced a partnership with Atos, the digital services firm. The firms are partnering to tackle issues of compliance in the workplace. The partnership, claimed to be a first of its kind in Europe, will cover the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) due to be adopted in 2016 but enforced in 2018.

Atos and NetClean say that they will offer ways to mitigate the risk of reputational damage by detecting and tracking child sexual abuse material as part of their broader cyber security offerings.

The new EU General Data Protection Regulation will trigger new issues around compliance and the awareness of compliance from a business perspective. It will also lead to a greater focus on the protection of personal data, which means there will be significant fines and penalties for those who don’t follow the rules, the companies say.

Christian Berg, CEO of NetClean, said: “This is a key preparatory step for NetClean where the new EU data laws are concerned. Much work needs to be done to educate businesses on the issues of compliance and reputational implications. Atos is a strong partner with an international reach to market. It is looking to expand its ‘Trust & compliance’ offering, so we’re excited to join forces for a good cause.”

The deal will initially focus on the central European market, including Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Germany. The reach will then be expanded to a number of other countries in Europe.

Andreas Köberl, VP, Head of Big Data and Security Austria, Atos, said: “We approached NetClean as the leading provider of protection against child sexual material. Our aim is to further enhance ethical compliance for our customers as part of Atos’ holistic approach to trust & compliance.”
