Living Wage recognition

by Mark Rowe

A support services provider has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to the living wage. Emprise Services plc, which has 5500 employees, has been awarded ‘Living Wage Recognised Service Provider’ status by the Living Wage Foundation after meeting the standards set by Citizens UK and the Centre for Civil Society for good practice.

The Living Wage was launched in 2001. It is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK and expressed as hourly wage rates – a higher one for London and another for outside the capital.

Bridget Hodgson, pictured, Emprise’s HR director, said: “We are proud and delighted to announce that Emprise is now a Recognised Living Wage Service Provider. This is a reflection of the core values of our business and is a step towards looking to improve the quality of life for our employees at both work and home. The positive impact a business can expect by being part of the foundation include reducing staff turnover and increasing worker morale and loyalty.”

About the firm

Emprise provides cleaning, pest control and security services for retail, leisure and corporate clients, in particular retailers, shopping centres, theatres, legal and financial institutions, blue chip headquarters, health and leisure clubs and other public buildings.

About The Living Wage

The Government rate is separate to the Living Wage rate calculated by the Living Wage Foundation. The Government rate is based on median earnings while the Living Wage Foundation rate is calculated according to the cost of living; the UK Living Wage is £7.85 an hour and the London Living Wage £9.15 an hour.
