Personnel awards reminder

by Mark Rowe

As the deadline for the 2016 BSIA Security Personnel Awards nominations approaches, members of the British Security Industry Association are being encouraged to nominate their outstanding security personnel.

The annual awards have regional and national rounds of judging. They aim to acknowledge the contributions that security personnel make; across five categories. These are: Service to the Customer, Outstanding Act, Best Newcomer, Best use of Technology and Best Team.

The deadline for nominations for 2016 is October 30, with judging of the regional awards throughout December. Those successful in the regional rounds will then progress to the national round of judging, in March 2016. The national award winners will be invited to attend the BSIA’s annual luncheon – where they will be presented with their awards in front of some of the industry’s most influential people. Awards are customarily awarded by the association’s Guest of Honour, which has included members of the Royal Family, senior MPs and Cabinet ministers, senior police and celebrities.

The 2015 awards saw 33 regional winners and 13 national winners gain awards for their contribution to community safety and maintaining the industry’s reputation. Some of the inspirational achievements included life-saving actions, exceptional customer service and the use of innovative technology.

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, pictured, says: “Each year, the Security Personnel Awards demonstrate the high calibre of individuals employed in our industry. The BSIA prides itself on representing the very best in the security industry and the outstanding contributions made by our award winners every year certainly show that our members employ people to be proud of.

“The awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise and reward the talents of personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty in order to deliver the best possible standard of service. Traditionally, the awards have been dominated by the larger companies operating in the security industry; however, over the past few years, a number of small and medium sized companies have been presented with some of the most coveted awards. I strongly encourage members of all sizes to participate in nominating their employees.”

Camberford Law Plc – specialist insurance brokers to the security industry – have sponsored the awards since they began 17 years ago. David Ottewill, Managing Director of Camberford Law said: “It is important to recognise and reward the hard work and efforts of those dedicated professionals within the security industry. As such, we were very proud to once again sponsor this year’s awards [2015].”

Members of the BSIA’s Security Guarding, CVIT, Police and Public Services, Leisure Industry, Specialist Services or Crowd Management sections can nominate personnel by downloading a nomination form from: www.bsia.co.uk/security-personnel-awards.aspx or by calling 0845 389 3889.
