Racecourse contract

by Mark Rowe

A security and stewarding contract for Newbury Racecourse in Berkshire has gone to Hampshire-based Venture Security.

From April, Andover-based Venture will be supplying all event stewarding, crowd management and hospitality security services for the racecourse, including for the high-profile Coral Gold Cup, Betfair Super Saturday, and the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes. Venture will be providing year-round security services for the site, including 31 racedays at the racecourse each year, the largest of which will require a mobilisation of up to 180 security and stewarding staff on the day.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender process. Newbury is the second racecourse to call on the company’s services, as Venture has been the security provider of choice for Salisbury Racecourse for the last eight years. Duncan Robertson, head of events at Venture, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with the internationally renowned Newbury Racecourse. Being such a professional and well organised course, we look forward to adding value through our high-quality security provision and to working with the team there to support a positive customer experience.

“It’s testament to the expertise and dedication of our team that despite being a small independent security company, we continue to secure contracts from world leading companies, sporting venues and historic sites across the region; including Stonehenge, the Roman Baths, and now Newbury Racecourse. It’s fantastic to see the capabilities and quality of smaller security companies increasingly being recognised.”

Newbury Racecourse is a Grade 1 racecourse and ranked among the top ten in the UK; and welcomes around 180,000 visitors a year. The site also has one of the largest conference and events centres in the county, with over 3,800 sq. metres of event and exhibition facilities.

Amelia Gray said: “’We’re excited for another busy year at Newbury Racecourse with a number of high-profile racedays – as well as live performances from Olly Murs and Sir Tom Jones – arriving in the coming weeks and months. Providing memorable experiences for those attending racedays and events at Newbury Racecourse is our top priority and we look forward to working with Venture Security as we continue to enhance the raceday and event experience we’re able to offer in 2023 and beyond.”
