Integrated Systems

Security tech at Light + Building

by Mark Rowe

In 2020, the Light + Building trade fair in Germany will focus on ‘Connected Security’, say organisers. While the Messe Frankfurt show covers building products and tech, typically for home automation and electrical engineering, that includes access control and windows and doors; hence security market manufacturers such as ABUS, Gretsch-Unitas, Hikvision and Mobotix are among the exhibitors.

Karsten Nölling, Chair of the Senior Management Team at KIWI, a video analytics company and another Light + Building exhibitor from the security sector – says: “When it comes to connected security, we are all still at day one. There are lots of good systems, but they have, for the most part, been designed as isolated solutions for individual applications. That includes alarm systems just as much as electronic locking systems. We are going to see increasing interlinking of systems in this area over the next few years – particularly in situations that involve several suppliers. Intersec Building has picked up on the trend for inter-connected products and processes early and is systematically extending its coverage.”

The organisers are also stressing connectivity and interoperability of digital applications – including in terms of energy management; the networking of building services and security technology, the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, ‘smart’ transport systems and the ‘smart’ urban environment overall.
