Hemel Hempstead School in Hertfordshire has had installed 48 cameras to monitor its corridors and outdoors.
As an open site with a lot of public footfall, the school sought safety and security for staff, students and visitors, whilst the CCTV remained discreet. The school has migrated its video from analogue to IP cameras, delivering higher quality images, and making the system easier to use and ensuring it stands the test of time. The school also required a system which integrated into the school’s buildings, but captured activity across the campus, whatever the light. The 48 Full HD and HD Sony IP cameras included 23 mini domes, the SNC-XM632, and 25 infra-red SNC-EM602R models. Both are vandal resistant with IK10 and ingress protected with IP66.
The IPELA ENGINE EX and Exmor CMOS sensors used in Sony’s cameras, paired with motion detection, means that high definition recording is maintained across low-light conditions in areas of variable lighting, such as corridors. The move to IP has created a streamlined security solution at the school, with unsightly overhead cabling between buildings removed in favour of the IP cameras.
The school tasked Steve Beadle Consultancy Services Ltd. Part of the remit included the need for an audit trail of staff, student and visitor movements across the site. The analogue CCTV system was not satisfactory. The consultant entrusted Sound and Safe Ltd to design and deliver the products.
