Thurrock checks

by Mark Rowe

SIA checks on door staff were carried out in pubs and clubs across Thurrock on Friday night, May 17. Investigators from the Security Industry Authority, Essex Police and Thurrock Council Licensing team carried out inspections on 14 door staff, all were found correctly licensed.

Warnings were issued to two door supervisors for failing to notify the SIA of a change of address and for not correctly displaying their SIA licence while working; both of which are a breach of SIA licensing conditions.

SIA Head of Investigation Darren Woodhouse said: “We are pleased with the outcome of these checks. We are keen to continue working with Essex Police and Thurrock Council to ensure the safety of the public.”

Councillor Angie Gaywood, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection said: “Thurrock Council works closely with its partners to ensure that door staff are properly licensed and trained to do their job. I am pleased that all the door staff we checked were properly licensed, this sends out the message to businesses that Thurrock Council will work with its partners to protect its residents.” Information about SIA enforcement and penalties can be found on the website: www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/enforcement.
