Network door reader

by Mark Rowe

The new AXIS A4011-E reader is a joint work between Axis Communications and ASSA ABLOY and is designed to work with Axis’ A1001 network door controller.

Axis says that their reader has an ergonomic design with an illuminated keypad. It supports touch-free entry with most entry card formats and is suitable for indoor and outdoor installation, the makers say.

Since the launch of the A1001 controller, customers have asked about a door reader, says Ola Jönsson, business development manager at Axis Communications. “With the introduction of the A4011-E reader we are now able to provide a feature-rich and future-proof door reader suitable for most installations. The reader is based on proven technology from ASSA ABLOY, a company with great experience in readers and access control solutions.”

The new reader has an intuitive user interface with illuminated symbols and a sound indicator to display the status and communicate with the user. The keypad features backlight illumination and stainless steel buttons.
The company describes the product as a generic reader that supports several card formats to meet specific system requirements. It can handle two card formats at once, which simplifies system expansion and enables migration from one card technology to another.

The reder is expected to be available in selected countries in Q4 2014 through Axis’ distribution channels. Visit: http://www.axis.com/products/access_control/a4011e/index.htm

For larger enterprise systems, the A1001’s open application programming interface enables Axis’ Application Development Partners (ADP) to meet specific customer requirements. Some 25 Axis ADP partners offer solutions, which include video integration. Arjan Bouter, Sales Director Nedap Security Management, said: “Physical security systems start to behave more similar to IT systems, where non-proprietary hardware and open standards have already been a logical concept for many years. The new AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller perfectly fits within this trend. You now have full access to the powerful AEOS Security Management Software. These developments are possible as the two companies build their solutions on the same philosophy; both Axis and Nedap develop open systems and use standards that are already available in the market. That is why the roadmaps of Nedap and Axis align.”
