Hikvision, the Chinese video surveillance products manufacturer, and Eagle Eye Networks, a cloud security camera video management firm, have partnered with the Lawrence, Massachusetts Police Department to create mobile surveillance. Hikvision cameras in a police van, pictured, are linked to the Eagle Eye Security Camera Video Management System (VMS) to provide remote access to live and recorded video.
When the Lawrence Police Department noticed that the city’s unlawful activity periodically changed locations, they decided on a mobile unit as the most efficient and cost-effective. The van is parked in city ‘trouble spots’; officers at the police station use the video feeds as a tool to monitor activity, as do patrol cars in the vicinity of the van. The video helps cut response time for police officers in the field. East Coast Security Services Inc., a New England installer, fitted out the surveillance van.
Dennis Bouchard, director of operations of East Coast Security, said: “The Lawrence Police Department needed to be able to see multiple locations on one interface and they needed to be able to share logins with several different people. We turned to the cloud-managed Eagle Eye Security Camera VMS because it was extremely easy to deploy and provided secure remote access. The high-quality images we get can then be retrieved via a smartphone, tablet, or web browser.”
East Coast Security selected Hikvision’s DS-2CD2112F-I fixed domes and DS-2CD2212-I5 EXIR bullet cameras. The 2212 model boasts infrared distance of up to 150 feet, making it an good fit for a van that is often used during nighttime hours, the installers say.
Justin Crow, director of facilities for the Lawrence Police Department, said: “It’s amazing how clear the images are, even from a far distance. The surveillance van is a very visible sign that the police are working to reduce crime in the city. It serves as a good deterrent even when it’s just driving down the street: it gets people talking. We are hoping it will help support a positive relationship with the community and lead to a lot of tip generations.”
Dean Drako, president & CEO of Eagle Eye Networks, said: “The Lawrence Police Department is paving the way for other communities to adopt innovative mobile surveillance to better protect their neighborhoods. This is a terrific application for the Eagle Eye Networks cloud security camera system, as their video is kept private and secure while being sent directly to the cloud, and they were able to utilize their choice of cameras.”
And Jeffrey He, president of Hikvision USA and Hikvision Canada, said: “Hikvision is committed to Safe Cities all across North America, and we’re thrilled to hear that the mobile solution in Lawrence has benefitted so much from Hikvision products. Hikvision is at the leading edge when it comes to integrating with cloud based software and other state-of-the-art surveillance technology. We are proud to support the ingenuity of integrators and end-users who are working to transform modern security.”
