Chalke Valley return

by Mark Rowe

The Chalke Valley History Festival again has chosen Topher Ltd to manage its traffic and security. The festival, which runs from June 27 to July 3 this year, attracts tens of thousands of visitors to its greenfield site to enjoy activities, speakers and historical re-enactments.

Topher Ltd for the third consecutive year will be responsible for safe and timely flow of all traffic in and out of the event, parking for the visitors, and maintaining a security presence across the festival site.

Topher traffic marshals are trained and authorised to stop and direct traffic on the public highway, with powers to close roads and divert traffic if required. These powers are granted to traffic marshals through the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) by the west country regional constabularies. That gives Topher some police-like powers to manage traffic and so minimise congestion and queuing.

Fleet, Hampshire-based Topher’s managing director, Chris Haywood, said: “Chalke Valley History Festival is a fantastic event, and I’m very proud that it has once again chosen to entrust Topher with its traffic management and security requirements.”

About the firm

Topher’s core staff are former Gurkhas, who have worked at some 200 events in the last seven years, including The Ryder Cup, The Country Life Fair, RHS Wisley Flower Show, Chatsworth Country Fair and RAF Waddington Air Show.
