Biometric passport

A French identity product company, the Imprimerie Nationale Group, reports that it has delivered a multi-biometric ID documents platform for the Republic of Djibouti, plus digital archiving of ID documents files.

A ceremony at the General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN) marked the issuing of the first biometric passport. The product firm says that it’s supporting the African republic, through its Ministry of Interior, in harmonising ID document production and issuance.

The new system allows the issuance of biometric passports for Djibouti citizens, resident permit cards for foreigners and visas. .

The biometric ID documents are compliant with the international ICAO standards (International Civil Aviation Organization) to facilitate the travel of Djiboutians abroad. They have security to prevent fraud.

Digital archiving of documents applicant files will enable the provision of administrative services to the Djiboutian population. This will allow Djiboutians from abroad to apply for a biometric passport. Foreigners will also get benefit from the harmonization of visa application and delivery system.

At the ceremony, Colonel Abdillahi Abdi Farah, General Director of the National Police of the Republic of Djibouti said: “The Imprimerie Nationale, thanks to its multi biometric ID documents platform, enables the Republic of Djibouti to benefit from highly secure ID documents compliant with the latest international standards. Identity protection and security of Djibouti citizens will thus be strengthened.”

And Didier Trutt, CEO of the Imprimerie Nationale Group said “We are pleased to contribute, with the deployment of this multiple biometric ID documents platform, to the security of Djibouti citizens’ identity, the harmonization of ID documents and free movement of people in the region.”
