Access Control

Card reader

by Mark Rowe

Pictured is the MTZ, a Multi-Technology reader from Axxess Identification. The product combines card technologies – low frequency, 125 kHz plus the latest RFID and encryption proximity – in a single reader, and hence is able to read cards from manufacturers such as Paxton, HID Global, TDSI and PAC.

According to the UK firm the MTX simplifies one of the challenges in any technology migration project; the ability to use ID cards, deploy multi-technology cards, and switch to new smart cards without having to change the access control system and card-holder database.

Instead of switching all of the cards at once, smart cards can be issued to new employees and replacement cards to existing employees over a longer period.

For more about the weather-proof product (which is black and can come as other colours on request subject to minimum order quantities) visit the Axxess website.
