Power over Coax

by Mark Rowe

Dahua Technology is introducing PoC (Power over Coax) into its HDCVI products. PoC transmits video and electrical power over a single coaxial cable, which eliminates separate camera power supplies and simplifies system deployment the product company says, by offering ‘true Plug & Play’.

For installers, time and labour costs will be reduced, according to the firm, as the power supply designing and installation work is eliminated. HDCVI PoC provides constant power supply to cameras, saving on maintenance. Besides, HDCVI provides PoC cameras with power outputs which can power nearby devices.

For distributors or system integrators, the 400-meter/300m transmission distance for 2 and 4 Megapixel cameras of HDCVI PoC should bring more project opportunities, the firm says. For end users, the ‘plug and play’ means there’s no configuration needed for camera connection, and power is available at once.

Operational safety is enhanced with auto device identification and quick power-off. When connected with unsupported devices or suffering short-circuits, the system immediately cuts off the power supply.

Dahua adds that the HDCVI Lite series PoC cameras and PoC XVRs will be released soon, exact dates depending on country. Visit the Dahua website.
