Welding standard

by Mark Rowe

WEC CCTV, a UK-based manufacturer of camera poles, towers and accessories, has qualified to the international standard ISO 9606-1:2017 to manufacture and supply 11 stainless steel camera poles and 31 brackets/accessories to Basra, Iraq.

John Whittle, WEC CCTV Export Sales and Technical Manager, discussed the project for Exxon Mobil Gas Company at the Intersec exhibition in Dubai in January 2017. The job specified that welders needed to be qualified to American Welding Society Standard Level D1. WEC’s internal quality, sales and engineering teams worked around the clock for approval of the British standard equivalent, putting two welders forward for the ISO 9606-1:2017 welding assessment which they passed.

John Whittle said: “This project was won on persistence to ensure the team met all of the project tender specifics, which I’m delighted we did successfully and to a high standard!”

As part of the wider engineering and fabrication company WEC Group Ltd, the Lancashire-based company is a manufacturer of camera towers and columns which are fully designed, manufactured and assembled in the UK. The specialist export division supplies CCTV poles, towers and camera mounting bracketry worldwide and offers support from the initial tender stage to project completion, including supporting design documentation, full export documentation and shipping management.

Recent export projects include the manufacture and supply of multiple cabinet based columns for the Jebal Ali Port Terminal upgrade in Dubai, and the manufacture and supply of multiple fixed tubular columns for the Qatar Armed Forces air base.

WEC Group is again exhibiting at Intersec, Dubai in 2018 from January 21 to 23, on stand 1-H21. Visit www.wec.uk.net.
