by Mark Rowe

Dahua Technology has hailed making it into the top three on the a&s Security 50 for the first time, in the 2017 list. That ranking is based on product sales revenue, gross profit, and profit margin during the previous fiscal year. With a sales revenue of CNY13.33 billion (US$1.93 billion) and 32.26 per cent annual growth from 2015, Dahua rose one position from last year.

Fu Liquan, chairman of Dahua Technology said: “It is a great honor to be recognised once again by the 2017 Security 50 and we are delighted to become one of the top three companies in the security industry. This outstanding performance demonstrates Dahua’s continuing dedication to innovation in the application of video surveillance.”

Dahua points to its continued investment in R&D, which reached 10.69pc of sales revenue this year, that has seen a series of smart products based on deep learning, including front-end and back-end products that support facial recognition, electronic police video check points, and structured video servers.

The firm also sees rapid development within the security industry, which has led distributors and integrators to turn their strategy from product sales to construction of complete security systems. Hence, Dahua has released a series of what it calls customizable end-to-end security solutions. Dahua has set up 35 subsidiaries, covering the Asia and Pacific region, North America, South America, Europe, and Africa. Dahua’s overseas subsidiaries have recruited locals to provide sales, marketing, and technical support to local customers and partners.

In 2017, the company adds, the global security industry is facing an unprecedented opportunity presented by the era of AI, and Dahua says it has been exploring adjacent technologies and business sectors, to help customers take advantage of this market transition.
