Crime Cards

by msecadm4921

Business Crime Direct, part of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, has gone multilingual.

BCD has provided a booklet of translation cards to loss prevention and security staff, police and street crime wardens.

Head of Business Crime Direct, Peter Jones said:”We have adopted best practice from Lincoln were these cards have been introduced and proved successful.” The cards feature phrases that security staff may need to use, such as how to identify themselves as police or security, the reason for stopping someone, asking for name and address and reading someone their rights. Even if the translated text is difficult for non-speakers to pronounce, or is in non-Roman script, the relevant passages can be shown to the suspects. Languages include French, Italian, Iranian, Chinese, Latvian and Turkish. Peter added: “It is hoped that by breaking down communication barriers, potentially problematic situations can be more easily dealt with.”
