Personal safety on film

by Mark Rowe

Short videos advising people how to keep their homes secure, and how to stay safe when out and about have been produced by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The 60-second films, which cover topics such as bogus callers, shed security and personal safety, were made by Tameside’s Partnership Team, and can be accessed at www.gmp.police.uk/60secondsecurity or on GMP’s Facebook and Twitter pages – www.facebook.com/gtrmanchesterpolice or @gmpolice

They provide step-by-step tips, including advice on security products and how to install and use them, and have so far had over 18,000 hits on YouTube.

PC Chris Hayden, who features in the videos, said: “We’ve had some really positive feedback on this project, and the videos are now being used widely by other police forces as well as housing suppliers, security companies and Home Watch schemes. Hopefully they will bring home to people that they only need to take some really simple steps to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime, and it only takes 60 seconds of their time to find out what to do. We would welcome any suggestions for more crime prevention videos, and people can contact us by calling 0161 856 5814 or emailing [email protected]
