London Fraud Forum chair

by Mark Rowe

The eighth annual conference of the London Fraud Forum saw a change in the chairman – though both men come from the same workplace. Alan Day, who recently left Transport for London (TfL) to go into consultancy, stood down as LFF chairman. Taking his place is Robert Brooker, fraud manager at TfL, where he’s been for six years. He’s been on the LFF board for eight years, since the start of the group, part of regional and national partnership work among fraud practitioners.

Robert, pictured, told Professional Security during a break in the conference at One Great George Street: “I am looking to carry on the great work that Alan has done and if we can develop that great work that he’s done and be as successful year by year as we are, then I would have achieved in the same way as Alan has done.” Membership, of counter-fraud managers and investigators from across the fields of law, insurance and banking, and corporates, as the name badges at the forum showed, is larger than ever, he added.

“Fraud is a moving feast and we need to make sure we move with it,” Robert added.

Among the speakers at the event was the City of London Police Commissioner Adrian Leppard; Jane de Lozey, head of fraud at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO); and Isabelle Moeller, chief exec of the Biometrics Institute. Other subjects included cyber-fraud and procurement and supplier fraud. Topics covered in training sessions included investigative interviewing, using data analytically in investigations, using business intelligence in fraud investigations, and the options of civil litigation.
