Hinkley Point C contract

by Mark Rowe

G4S, the multi-national security company, reports a ten year contract worth £80m with EDF Energy to provide security services for the construction of Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear plant project in Somerset.

Subject to a final investment decision, the project would see the development of the UK’s first nuclear power station for a generation. G4S will provide on-site security management, to include access control, perimeter security and visitor search and screening. As part of a panel of suppliers G4S will also provide screening and vetting of on-site contractors.

G4S will deploy at peak of delivery 300 staff, part of the creation of an estimated 25,000 jobs through the entire project.

Doug Hewitson, Regional Managing Director for G4S Secure Solutions, UK said: “We have had the privilege of working with EDF at Hinkley Point for the past four years, and this contract award is a great endorsement of the partnership we have developed. We are delighted to be part of one of the most complex and challenging construction projects in the UK.”
