Animals on a farm in Barbados marked with a forensic DNA product, containing a unique, traceable code, have been recovered by police. Farm owner Stephen Williams had been battling the theft of his animals for the past year, as thieves regularly butchered the animals to eat.
As part of a trial organised by the marking product company SelectaDNA’s distributor in Barbados to help Mr Williams, SelectaDNA marking was applied to the ears of his remaining calves. It didn’t hurt the calves in any way and the DNA code in the marking was specific to the particular farm they came from. Mr Williams was delighted that police recovered his animals, which were identifiable by checking the DNA marking, which is visible under UV light (pictured).
