Control for racecourse

by Mark Rowe

An IT firm in Newcastle reports a five-figure contract to supply an intelligent control system for Newcastle Racecourse’s floodlights. Follingsby Park-based Advantex has enabled the floodlights to be remotely switched on and off via a new web-based command and control system.

The Paxton10 product can be integrated with building systems to control lighting, heating, air conditioning, intruder and fire alarms. At Gosforth Park an all-weather track has been laid beside the installation of new floodlights to enable twilight meetings.

Advantex say the system should improve the management of the floodlights, delivering energy cost savings and operator benefits.

Paul Elliott, operations manager at Newcastle Racecourse, said floodlighting that can be controlled remotely was an important part of the improvement. He added: “We were impressed with Advantex’s cost effective solution, which will not only deliver cost saving benefits but can be adapted to meet the changing needs of the business.”

Advantex, which employs 60 people, saw a 40pc growth in the last financial year. Tony Easingwood, Advantex’s account manager, said: “We are at the forefront of developing this technology in the region and have received a significant level of interest from customers across the UK. It’s part of a strategy that sees an on-going investment in the latest services and products to ensure customers benefit from quality, high performance and trusted solutions, which add real value and ROI.”
