Roy's Monthly Gossip

Channel account managers and more

by Mark Rowe

Welcome to our May issue and let me get straight into that gossip you so love. Now we all know Mark Massie, right? But did you Know Mark has left Dahua after two and half years and joined Chamberlain Group? Who are they are, I hear you cry!?

Chamberlain Group are, they say, into intelligent access control and a part of Blackstone. Their products, with intuitive software, comprise a myQ ecosystem (I’ll come to that) that delivers access to homes and businesses. Their brands, including LiftMaster and Chamberlain, are found in 50-plus million homes, and 10-plus million people rely on the myQ app to control and monitor their homes and businesses, from anywhere. Their patented vehicle-to-home connectivity solution, myQ Connected Garage, is available in millions of vehicles from carmakers. Now you know!

Let’s talk about Motorola Solutions shall we! Not to be confused with the mobile phone firm Motorola. Seems there has been some new titles handed out there; for example Scott Harrison is the new Channel Account Manager, I’m sure that doesn’t mean he looks after a stretch of water? Or does it? In any case Dale Bridgman is also a Channel Account Manager for Enterprise, Matt (the ninja) Raban has also become a Channel Account Manager – Pelco, Daniel Phillips is a Channel Account Manager – corporate accounts at Motorola Solutions. Rosemary Dunlea starts a new position called, yep, you got it, a Channel Account Manager – Avigilon, Graham Goldridge is a new Channel Account Manager for sub-Sahara Africa (isn’t that a desert?). Are you confused yet? Then let me tell you what it means! Motorola Solutions have restructured the sales team and added to it. Unusual as a restructure often leads to a loss of jobs but not this time. The new members are Scott as I’ve mentioned above plus Lee Wood (formerly of Stanley) has joined them with Ian Compton (formerly of Arcules) and David Hodgson (formerly of distributors DVS and Mayflex) …. all Channel partners! Now you know.

Hum, let’s move away from these muddy waters (see what I did there, lol), shall we and give you some smart but quick update from installers. Brian Laney has become a project manager for Total Security Protection ltd, while Steve Seals has become a business development manager for Sovereign Fire and Security. Dean Bettison has started a new company or rather is a new founding partner of, UK Red Security & Fire Systems. Bill Hawkins is starting a new position as Senior Contract Manager at Pro Sentry. Andy Fitzpatrick starts at RDS Fire and Security; and Ben Mathews starts as Design and Estimating Manager for Frocester Group. Scott Griffiths starts as a Director/Close Protection Trainer at Blayde Training Academy.

Sam Lord who has been in our industry since 2001 has started a new position as Commercial Events Manager with AMAG Technology. You may not know but Sam started with Bewator (the w pronounced as a v, the Scandinavians among you won’t need telling) which became Siemens then Vanderbilt! Running the marketing departments, in 2017 she joined ACRE. Mollie Evans is starting a new position as Partnership Manager for Sponsorships at Skills for Security.

Jonathon Bowers (son of Geoff I believe) is starting a new position as national account manager for Amadeo systems ltd. Now Amadeo is a developer and manufacturer of access control and a mechanical master keying system called FreeFlex; for hotels, commercials, and residentials. Join them in moving “Beyond Access” so they tell us!

Nicki Hay has accepted a position as Sales Director for Compliance at Omega Red Group and IWS Integrated water services which are part of the South Staffordshire PLC group of companies! Should he not be a channel manager? Brian Gailey is starting a new job on physical Security Project design and delivery for Google data centers.

Aucso (the Association of University Chief Security Officers) has during its usual Eastertime AGM announced Figen Murray OBE as their first Patron. As as you may recall she was a winner of an award at WiS (the Women in Security awards night) in 2022. Figen is the mother of Martyn Hett, one of 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack of May 2017, and is the driving force behind proposed counter terrorism legislation, known as Martyn’s Law (technically known as the Protect Duty).

Abloy UK has three new appointments. Hinna Khan, Matt Pendlebury, and Tim Remment will be showing the company’s digital access control products, to specific sectors. Talking of that firm, Assa Abloy Global Solutions is acquiring Nomadix, Inc. and GlobalReach in the USA and UK. Assa Abloy talks about the combination of technology, resources and expertise set to provide a single trusted source for access, user authentication, Wi-Fi software and hardware and analytics. This also includes satellite authentication and digital engagement for hospitality, multi-dwelling units (MDU) and transport businesses. And the firm also has announced the acquisition of Messerschmitt Systems, a German manufacturer of access and room control hardware and software. Messerschmitt Systems will be part of ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions’ business area Hospitality and their Vingcard brand.

It’s not often these days that you can celebrate long service, but here is a picture of Dawn King with flowers, who has spent 30 years working at Reflex Security Systems as Support Services Manager, at the Rotherham installer. I am looking in the picture for the medal, as working that long for John Pye (pictured to Dawn’s right) surely deserves a medal?! Well done, Dawn.
