by Mark Rowe

Can I start by wishing you all a very happy and profitable new year and hope that all your wishes come true.

We have entered our 27th year of publishing and are happy to tell you that we have launched our shows for this year. We are going back to Nottingham in February, visiting Dublin for the first time in April, Going back to Manchester in July, and returning to Heathrow in November which is outside the school holidays this time. I hope to see you at one if not all of the events, this year we are adding a casino to our charity dinner, the speaker line up is looking good already and I hope to be able to announce a special certified training session for the afternoons. You can read more about what to expect on page 22.

So, let’s get into that gossip and start with Arecont Vision. The megapixel camera company has taken on Robert Turner. Now Robert was at Vicon for a few years, left to go to the dark side, that is ADT, but came back to manufacturing and worked for Dedicated Micros for over five years. Talking of Arecont, it seems Paul Green has left and joined Milestone Systems, the video management software firm; as you see when one door closes another one opens, either for you or someone else.

Videcon has been making changes, Henry Desai has been appointed as Business Development Manager. He has over six years of experience in the security industry. Internal account manager, George Kenny, has been promoted to field sales executive for the south west region. Did you see Videcon’s Christmas message? Click here it’s worth a watch if not to just see Mike Reddington like you have never seen him before; it made me smile, and it has to be said it was all in aid of charity.

The detector product makers GJD have appointed a new sales and marketing director, Ana Maria Sagra-Smith, pictured. She joins its board with effect from Monday, January 4. Anna has been in the industry for 22 years and was at Texecom in 1993 where she was the sales director had a brief spell at GJD. I say brief, it was three years; she left in 2011 but it seems they have pursued her to come back and run the international sales and marketing.

Now let’s talk about Matt Raban; he has just started with a company called 2N (two networks as he explained it to me) as their UK Business Development Manager. Now looking at Matt’s profile you can see that he has been knocking around in the industry since 2004 where he was with Optex, and during his career he has been with Samsung, Step up security, Nedap and HIK.

Geoff Miles has been appointed as CRH FSG (UK) Limited’s Sales and Marketing Director, at the fencing division and you can catch up with him at our events as he will be there exhibiting. He told me: “I joined the company from the Expanded Metal Company who are known in the market as “Expamet” where I launched a re-branded fencing product range into the medium and high security sector with great success. My role there for the last three years was as European Business Development Manager and I was responsible for major project sales, marketing, and product development. Prior to that I have spent 15 years in the electronic security business managing national accounts and major projects whilst working for the likes of Tyco, ADT and Siemens.”

For those of you that use ID printers you will recall that Richard Wylie was working over at Securitworld, well seems that he has just celebrated his 50th birthday and is the MD of the company Reward-it Ltd.

More briefly, trying not to do these guys any injustice of course (you can read the full stores of these guys on our web site just search for their name). Malcolm Nichol, Commercial Director at Assist Security has been promoted to MD; he has been there since 1992 where he started as a door supervisor. Assist in SW19 provide door staff and security officers, to hotels and pubs for example. More next issue on them actually. Allegion, the physical security product makers, have appointed Louise Nulty as UK national account manager. Intact Solutions have welcomed on board Oliver Giles as Business Development Graduate. KBC Networks has appointed Luis Angulo as Chief Commercial Officer (COO). And wondered what Barry Shakespeare is doing after Norbain? Well it seems he is doing some consultancy work for Mirasys these days.
